More than 3000 competitors will make waves when they take to the water for the Portsea Swim Classic.
The Portsea Swim Classic, one of Australia’s biggest open water swims, is powering into its 39th year, swimming alongside Victoria’s leading ocean and pool swimmers, the state’s industry leaders, sporting stars and swim enthusiasts, as they take over Mornington Peninsula on January 18.
Participants can take part in a variety of events including the famous 1.5km Portsea Swim Classic, the Mornington Peninsula’s most popular ocean water event, the longer 2.5km Gold event, as well the 500m Junior Swim Classic for children aged 8-13 and the Dash 4 Cash sprint.
The 1.5km point-to-point course starts at the Cutting, close to Portsea Pier. Competitors swim in the pristine waters of Weeroona Bay before heading west around Police Point, along the stunning foreshore of Point Nepean, to finish at Jarman Oval at the Quarantine Station in the Point Nepean national park.
The event is major fundraiser for the Portsea SLSC to ensure funding continues for vital upgrades and replacement of lifesaving equipment, training for volunteer surf lifesavers, and public water safety education.
The Portsea Swim Classic is entirely volunteer-led by members of the Portsea Surf Life Saving Club.
Registrations for the Portsea Swim Classic on Saturday, January 20, are open via the website.
