Elders Merton Cup

Celebrating over 150 years of racing in 2025. The Merton Amateur Turf Club’s Elders Cup New Year’s Day race meeting is a chance for locals and visitors to come together to enjoy an authentic picnic racing experience. With century old elm trees creating all the shade you need and great track-side viewing, the ‘picnics at Merton’ is the only place to be on New Year’s Day. The kids will be well entertained with activities including games, face painting as well as running races on the track, while their five categories of Fashions on the Field are always hotly contested. Enjoy a beverage from the publican’s booth on course or pack your own esky with your favourite drop. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own picnic hampers, deck chairs and throw out a picnic rug on the lush lawns for the ultimate experience.
