KEY SERVICE PROVIDERS
1. HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES (DEPARTMENT OF) or EDUCATION AND TRAINING (DEPARTMENT OF)
Services offered include early years services including child care and kindergartens, and specialist children's services for children below school age who have additional needs due to a disability or developmental delay. Other Services include assessment, behaviour management, parent support and co-ordination of services and activities. The School Nursing Service and the School Dental Care Service provide health and dental checks to primary school children.
2. EDUCATION AND TRAINING (DEPARTMENT OF) is also responsible for the administration of State Primary and Secondary Schools in Victoria. If a child is having problems at school parents should approach the teacher or the Principal for assistance. Some schools also have a Student Welfare Co-ordinator. The Department offers various forms of specialist assistance for children with physical, behavioural or learning difficulties. Any general enquiries about any aspect of the State Primary or Secondary educational system can also be directed during office hours to the Information and Referral Service
3. Local Government Councils
Services available to all families through the local Councils include: child and maternal health; play groups; Child Care (centre and home-based); before and after school care; holiday programs. Contact the children's services section of the Local Council for details.
