About

Speech Pathologists assist adults and children who have difficulty communicating and/or swallowing due to child developmental delays, stroke, brain injuries, intellectual disability, cerebral
palsy, dementia and hearing loss, as well as other problems that affect speech and language.

Our local Speech Pathologist diagnoses and provides therapy for conditions relating to:
• Speech - the oral form of communication and the production of sounds and articulation
• Language - a whole system of words and symbols – written, spoken or expressed with
gestures and body language – that is used to communicate meaning
• Voice - the basic sound for speech and singing. People may experience changes to their
voice e.g. sounding hoarse, husky, being too loud or too quiet
• Fluency – This includes stuttering and cluttering
• Multimodal Communication – Communication using sign, communication boards and other
devices
• Swallowing – swallowing food, fluid and saliva management

Speech Pathology service delivery options:

• Face-to-face in clinic
• Home visits (where required)
• Telehealth
• Kindy and School visits
• Aged-care facility visits
