Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships - Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival

The Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival showcases the Burdekin region’s people, produce and culture whilst celebrating the Burdekin as the Sugar Cane Capital of Australia. The Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival features two headline events including the Burdekin Cultural Fair featuring First Fire on Friday night and the Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships on Saturday. 

This family-friendly event promises great food, live music, captivating entertainment and the highlight, the Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships. It's the ultimate test of skill and endurance, with competitors competing for the thousands of dollars in prize money up grabs.

Spectators will have the opportunity to walk through a paddock of burnt sugarcane, immersing themselves in the dirty, back-breaking work of a by-gone era. Cheer on the men and women as they swing their cane knives, all aiming to be crowned the Australian Hand Cane Cutting Champion!
